I have a love hate relationship with bananas, I prefer them green.. like WAY too green for people to eat... which makes it difficult when they get even slightly dotted on the counter, after I forget about them for a day... Enter, this 'I wish I liked sweet bananas' mask recipe.
Now, I know what you're thinking.. Cheryl, just make a damn banana bread and be done with it. But alas, you can absorb so many more benefits from this mask being put on your face... plus you can eat it sooooo.. WIN WIN!
Throw all of these ingredients in a bowl, and take your frustrations out on it!
2 ripe or overripe bananas
1/4 cup colloidal oatmeal (or oatmeal you've blended up into a powder)
2 T organic plain yogurt (greek style, or regular - doesn't matter!)
2 T raw honey (preferably high grade Manuka honey)
Rub this edible (albeit, unpalatable) mush all over your face. Relax for 20 minutes, preferably in a nice hot bath, since this stuff will fall off of your face in gross clumps of goo! Wipe away with a warm moist cloth. Voila, soft and supple skin. Added bonus, no fruit flies or stinky overripe banana smells lingering around your countertops!
WHY IT WORKS:
Bananas and Yogurt have high levels of enzymes that work at dead cells like it's their job.. well because it is technically their only task. Which is great for us, because we hate dead skin. Additionally, using enzymes to exfoliate also allows us to keep moisture in our supple adorable cheeks whilst it works its magic.
Oatmeal has a track record of being the most gentle thing for skin, it's even recommended for babies with rashes and eczema. Adding it to this mix not only provides stability to the mask, but also gently exfoliates when you wipe it away and adds amino acids to your skin for a youthful glow.
These enzymes are also found, among many other awesome ingredients, in our Blue Tansy Mask from Herbivore. So if you're thinking, man I hate ripe bananas just as much as you do, Cheryl - so much so, that I can't even stand the thought of them NEAR my mouth. Well then, I'd tell you to come to the shop an pick yourself up this magical dreamy blue mask that smells like honeysuckle and jasmine...and just make banana bread out of those yucky horrible bananas.
